Colombia: Colombia boasts all the best of South America's charm, thanks to its soaring Andean summit, unspoilt Caribbean coast, mysterious Amazon jungle and rustic archaeological sites.

The country is also teeming with colonial charm and a treasure trove of cinematic cobblestoned towns and villages that often feel as if they are in a different century.
If this is what you're after then be sure to visit the city of Cartagena, which boasts an extraordinarily well-preserved old city.

Be sure to also check-out quaint Barichara and Mompox, which ooze so much charm that they feel like movie sets. And if it is unique places you seek, then it is worth checking out whitewashed Villa de Leyva, which appears stuck in 16th-century quicksand.

This vibrant country is also home to a wealth of ancient civilizations, which have left behind a fascinating spread of archaeological and cultural sites throughout Colombia. The one-time Tayrona capital, Ciudad Perdida, built between the 11th and 14th centuries, is one of the continent's most mysterious ancient cities. Even more shrouded in mystery is San Agustín, where more than 500 life-sized ancient statues dot the surrounding countryside. And that is not all – as there is also Tierradentro, where elaborate underground tombs scooped out by an unknown people add even more mystique to Colombia's past.

If it is outdoor adventure that you are after, then Colombia's varied terrain is the ideal playground to dive, climb, raft, trek and soar. San Gil is the undisputed adventure capital, but Colombia boasts alfresco pleasures in all corners. Head to Ciudad Perdida for an unbelieve jungle walk to the ancient ruins of the Tayrona civilization. Parque Nacional Natural El Cocuy is a must for hikers, while Providencia's world-class reef spells aquatic heaven for scuba divers. In fact, the Pacific coast is also a must for whale-watchers who can spot majestic humpbacks in the wild. Wherever you go, be sure to have your camera ready to snap your adventures - as there is something weird and wonderful around each corner.
